10.08.2010: Around the world in a week

The third “tour du monde” on our career took place the last week of July. It began from a small Finnish coastal town of Uusikaupunki, from where we travelled to Ontario, Canada, via Taiwan. Very handy and convenient, isn’t it… ;)

It was the second time for us to perform in Uusikaupunki at the annual Crusell Week that specializes in wind instruments. Our instrument is not very far from that, so we suited pretty well to this festival. The town was as cozy and summery as I recalled it to be, and the beautiful New Church of Uusikaupunki offered lovely frames full of feeling for our evening concert. Last time we performed there acoustically, but this time we were amplified, which helped us a lot especially because the church was packed.

The next day we flew to Taiwan where we paid a second visit as well. The last time was five years ago. Just like then, our concert was part of the Taipei International Choral Festival. The venue was also the same: the exotic-looking National Theatre Concert Hall. Five years ago we visited Taiwan at the same time as a typhoon, which means that we mainly got to know Taipei from indoors… This year the weather was much better so we were able to do some sightseeing and shopping. The Taiwanese audience received us very warmly and enthusiastically, and this time nobody had to rush home before the typhoon would arrive, which meant that after the concert we had an hour-long signing session. It was great to meet some of our Taiwanese fans who were so lovely and friendly.

Early next morning we packed our bags again and travelled for about 24 hours to Ontario. Our concert was part of the annual Finn Grand Fest which collects together people of Finnish descent living in the US and Canada. This time the festival was being held in a small town called Sault Sainte Marie which was full of Finnish-looking people. Finland in the middle of Northern Ontario! The only suitable encore for the concert was naturally the Finlandia hymn by our national composer Jean Sibelius. That was a touching moment also for us, globetrotters on our way back to our home country.

The next few weeks we are going to stay in Finland. We are mainly going to spend time in the studio, finishing our upcoming CD Tarinoita (Stories) that will be published in early October. In addition to that and a few gigs we will be busy getting ready for our two big tours in Finland: the Tarinoita record release tour and the Rajaton Joulu Christmas tour.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and take care, everybody!
