15.03.2009: Embrace the spring

Embrace the spring

Hello everybody! It’s been a while since Soila last wrote in our diary. Since then we've had a ten-day winter holiday, rehearsed seven times together, performed in five concerts in three countries and done a number of other things separately to prepare us for the near future. During the next three weeks we will have seven concerts around Finland, so there is lots to do. It’s fun to go on tour again!

Last week we performed in Riga at a local music prize TV-gala concert called Lielā muzikās balva, singing two classic Rajaton songs: Butterfly and Mitä kaikatat, kivonen?, both written by Mia Makaroff. The gig was fun (check it out in YouTube by clicking the names of the songs above...) and it gave us the opportunity to meet with our Latvian friends from the a cappella group Cosmos. Some of you might recall them from the 2006 Eurovision song contest where they represented their country – apparently as the first a cappella group ever to do so? We met with them for the first time in Århus, Denmark in 2006, where they attended our workshop. Cosmos is a brilliant and delightfully original group whom we wish all the happiness and success they deserve. We have to get them to Finland to perform!

The collaboration with our friends and mentors The Real Group continues. Our Swedish colleagues are coming to Helsinki in June for two joint concerts at the Savoy Theatre. Spread the word and come there!

I guess that’s about all for now – let’s embrace the spring and meet at our concerts!
